«The Nevergreen»

«The Nevergreen» is a gigantic digital object in original format, implanted to Basel by Veronesi / Weber.

Basel, with the Rhine in the middle of the city, offers a multi-layered site to experience this project. With the positioning of the ship in the Rhine, we move the accident in the Suez Canal to Basel, in original scale, adapted to the course of the Rhine. To view and evaluate this event on an artistic level, we made it a NFT (Non-Fugible Token). The audience-member can search for the Qr-code during a walk along the Rhine, scan it and point the smartphone at the river.

It is not meant to be a classical re-enactment of the already „historical“ event at the Suez Canal, and thus become relivable for the viewers, «The Nevergreen» is rather meant to call up big and open questions, which are necessarily linked to this event, through the local displacement, through our artistic and experimental approach.

Within this AR project, our smartphone, that is, we become part of this encounter. The act of scanning the QR code and lifting the phone, using it like a prothesis to detect an invisible object, implies a wide field of possibilities that are only partially part of the human experience.

Experience the augmented reality from May 2nd, 2021 from six different scenic points at the Rhine.
